Donaustadt Hospital: Expansion of Food Supply Facility (AUT)
moreOn September 29, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion of the food supply facility at the Donaustadt hospital (Vienna / AUT) marked a major step forward in modernizing catering services for the North-East region of the Vienna Health Association (WiGev). Once operational in December 2027, the facility will deliver over 13,500 meals daily to two hospitals and one nursing home – substantially improving service capacity and reliability for the local healthcare infrastructure.
The new facility, which will replace the clinic’s existing kitchen, spans approximately 9,000 m² and includes production and dishwashing areas, administrative offices, and workspaces for dietetics. Sustainability measures include a fully equipped photovoltaic roof and extensive greenery throughout the facility.
Since October 2022, ILF has been responsible for overall planning management. In this role, ILF has coordinated all specialist disciplines – from architectural design and structural engineering to building services and kitchen planning – starting with the feasibility study.
Fire protection planning was carried out by Thomas Greuter (Project Manager at ILF-AUT).
“The KDO SPN project is one of the first hospital projects under the framework agreement launched in 2020 that we have the opportunity to support through to execution,” says Patrick Sperl, project manager. “I am especially pleased that we were able to demonstrate our reliability to the client and have stood by their side as a conscientious and resilient partner since the project’s development phase.”
Emphasizing sustainability, efficiency, and regional service capacity, the new facility represents a forward-looking investment in the future of public health infrastructure.
